TIFAC patent awards for small businesses

“TIFAC under its Technology Refinement and Marketing Programme (TREMAP) invites application for National Award for Commercializable Patents 2013-14 from individual innovators and MSMEs who have been granted Indian patent in their name on or after January 1, 2013,” according to an official statement here.
Last year, awards were given to small businesses who have been granted Indian patents for improved grinding machine for paste and powder making in wet and dry condition of soft material, devise for mitigating shock waves and induced forces during explosions, renew compression screw etc.
To encourage small and medium enterprises to file more for patents, awards were given to business who came up with new ideas, new processes and designs such as miniature solar photovoltaic modules, rubberized coir mattress and procedure for their preparation, endodontic instrument for root canal sterilization and an automatic energy monitoring system.
Meanwhile, TIFAC is an autonomous organization set up under the Department of Science and Technology to look ahead in technologies and support innovation by network actions in selected areas of national importance.
In 2006 TIFAC initiated program aimed at providing research and development to select clusters of MSMEs through an approach based on establishing and leveraging academia-industry interaction.
This included product and process technology improvement, testing and quality issues, and training and capacity building. (KNN)
