UP, Delhi or Haryana…equally bad places for MSMEs in rainy season

New Delhi, Aug 1 (KNN) Be it Akhilesh Yadav’s UP, Arvind Kejriwal’s Delhi or Manohar Lal Khattar’s Haryana, the MSMEs in the industrial areas of all three cities – Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida - are struggling with the horrifying traffic jams due to poor infrastructure and water logging which causes production losses to them.

The waterlogging and ensuing traffic snarls in Delhi- NCR are causing the problems for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The rain has provided relief from the prolonged summer heat and augured well for expectations of a normal monsoon this year after two successive rainfall-deficit years.

However, it has led to severe waterlogging in several parts of Delhi-NCR, causing prolonged traffic jams with vehicles stalled or moving at snail slow speed in the city.

This particular issue has not only taken a toll on all sectors including salaried, entrepreneurs, labourer and more.

Talking on the issue, Pramil Jindal, Vice President, Gurgaon Industrial Association-(GIA) said that heavy rains causes traffic jams in the area due to which workers don’t reach on time in the factories leading to the production loss. “Sometimes we have to cancel the shifts of the labourers,” he added.

“Recently, massive traffic jam in Gurugram led to closure of the highway for a day and workers could not move to the industrial areas,” he informed.

On the other hand, Vipin Malhan, President, Noida Entrepreneurs Association (NEA) told KNN, “The man power in our units gets reduced by 30 per cent in the rainy season because they face problems while commuting. Most of the workers live in slum areas and water logging is even a bigger problem there, as a result they are not able to move out of the area. That is their genuine problem.”

He said, “Water logging does not only cause traffic problems but also create health problems. In addition, we face problems in getting raw materials and dispatching goods from factories causing heavy industrial losses.”

Speaking about the infrastructure, the entrepreneur said “Infrastructure of Noida has to be changed. Around seven lakh workers work in Noida but there is no facility for them for living. Then they live in slums. Transportation is the biggest problem because the city gets jammed in rainy days. We have become used to of these things now.”

Sanjay Gaur, President, Patparganj FIE (Functional Industrial Estate) Entrepreneurs Association said rains are causing delay in finished product delivery and transportation due to water logging on the roads. Workers are not reaching on time to the factories.

“In the industrial area, rain water drainage systems now have been taken care of because DSIDC is working here,” he said

However, he said that, “Our area is covered from two sides of the drains so here we don’t have much issue of water logging. But other area where maintenance is not enough has serious problems because of poor sewerage systems.”

“Storage rooms of industries are in basement, but if it rains heavily then water from the roads enter the storage rooms,” he stated. (KNN/ AR)
