Varanasi Association Chairman calls for Special status for MSME sector at TOI Conclave in Gorakhpur

New Delhi, 31 Dec (KNN) Ravi Patodi, Chairman of International Affairs Committee, Indian Industries Association, Varanasi chapter, stated that the government must grant special status to MSME, handicrafts and handloom sector highlighting their role in the growth of the economy.

Patodi was speaking at the export potential and trade promotion in Purvanchal’ at Times of India ‘Destination Uttar Pradesh’ Conclave in Gorakhpur.

He also stressed on viewing the MSME sector from a national lens rather than a regional sector.

Emphasising on the role of MSME and regional handicraft in the upliftment of any state, he gave the example of Lucknow’s chikankari work which received international recognition.

“Understanding the significance of artisanal craft across India, there are many other local products which should be identified and promoted,” added Patodi.

As per NABARD, the handloom sector is the largest economic activity after agriculture, providing direct and indirect employment to more than 30 lakh weavers.

This sector contributes nearly 22 percent of the total cloth produced in the country and also contributed substantially to the export income of the country.
