Cabinet Approves Rs 8,970 Crore Guwahati–Tezpur Four-Lane Highway Project in Assam

New Delhi, Aug 6 (KNN) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 135.87-km four-lane access-controlled Guwahati–Tezpur corridor on NH-15 in Assam at an estimated cost of Rs 8,970.20 crore.

The project, covering the stretch from Baihata Chariali near Guwahati to Tezpur, excluding the 15.11-km Mangaldoi Bypass, will be developed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Toll mode.

The highway project includes a 4.9-km Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Tezpur Bypass, planned in coordination with the Indian Air Force. It also includes five major bypasses with a combined length of 58.7 km at Baihata Chariali, Sipajhar, Kharupetia, Dekiajuli and Tezpur.

The approved infrastructure includes 15 major bridges, 30 minor bridges, 19 flyovers, one elephant underpass on the Tezpur Bypass, 46 underpasses and around 210 km of service roads. The corridor is planned as an access-controlled highway.

According to the government, the project is expected to improve connectivity across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

It will also provide connectivity to eight PM Gati Shakti economic nodes, two aspirational districts, three tourist destinations and seven logistics nodes, including railway stations, airports and inland waterway terminals.
