Cabinet Approves Semi High-Speed Rail Project Between Ahmedabad and Dholera

New Delhi, May 13 (KNN) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)–Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Line railway project in Gujarat at an estimated cost of around Rs 20,667 crore.

The proposed project is Indian Railways' first semi high-speed rail corridor using indigenous technology.

The projects is targeted for completion by 2030-31.

The proposed railway line will provide faster connectivity between Ahmedabad, Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), the upcoming Dholera Airport and the Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex.

The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and enable convenient daily commuting and same-day return travel between Ahmedabad and Dholera.

According to the government, the project is planned under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan with a focus on integrated multi-modal connectivity and improved logistics efficiency.

The new double-line corridor will add around 134 km to the Indian Railways network and improve connectivity for nearly 284 villages with a combined population of around five lakh people in Ahmedabad district.

The government said the project is expected to improve mobility, operational efficiency and service reliability while also supporting economic development and employment generation in the region.

The semi high-speed corridor is also being viewed as a pilot model for the future expansion of similar rail networks across India.

Officials stated that the rail project will support climate goals by reducing dependence on road transport and lowering logistics costs.

The project is expected to help save around 0.48 crore litres of oil and reduce nearly 2 crore kg of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting around 10 lakh trees.
