CERC Proposes Transmission Charge Waiver For Renewable Projects Delayed By Grid Delays

New Delhi, Aug 3 (KNN) The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has proposed waiving transmission charges for clean energy projects delayed due to the unavailability of transmission infrastructure, according to draft regulations.

CERC Proposes Transmission Charge Waiver For Delayed Projects

The proposed relief is aimed at solar, wind and hybrid renewable energy projects that have missed their scheduled commissioning timelines because of delays in transmission connectivity.

Under the draft proposal, projects would be eligible for the waiver if they have entered into power sale contracts with a minimum tenure of seven years by December 31, 2026, reported Reuters.

Proposal Could Reverse Earlier Waiver Phase-Out

The proposal marks a potential reversal of the government's earlier move to phase out interstate transmission charge waivers for new solar, wind and hybrid renewable energy projects from July 2025.

Several renewable energy projects in India have faced delays due to inadequate transmission infrastructure, affecting their ability to commence operations within scheduled timelines.

Battery Storage Projects May Also Get Relief

CERC has also proposed extending the transmission charge waiver to battery energy storage systems developed as part of eligible renewable energy projects.

Under the proposal, electricity supplied from such battery storage systems would receive the same transmission charge waiver applicable to the associated renewable energy project.

Move Aims To Support Renewable Capacity Expansion

The proposed measures are intended to provide relief to projects affected by transmission infrastructure delays and support the continued expansion of renewable energy capacity.
