Coal Ministry to Hold Third Coal Gasification Roadshow in Mumbai on June 18
New Delhi, Jun 17 (KNN) The Ministry of Coal will organise its third roadshow on the Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects in Mumbai on June 18, 2026, as part of efforts to increase industry participation and investment in India's coal gasification sector.
The event follows similar roadshows held in New Delhi and Hyderabad and is expected to bring together industry representatives, investors, technology providers, financial institutions, policymakers and state government officials to discuss opportunities in coal gasification projects.
Coal gasification converts coal into synthesis gas (syngas), which can be used to produce products such as methanol, urea, ammonium nitrate, synthetic natural gas and other chemical feedstocks.
The technology is being promoted to support import substitution, value addition to domestic coal resources and energy security.
The government has approved a Rs 46,000 crore initiative to promote surface coal and lignite gasification projects across the country.
The programme aims to encourage the use of domestic coal for producing strategic industrial and chemical products while reducing dependence on imports of natural gas, methanol, ammonia and other critical feedstocks.
As part of the implementation process, the Ministry has placed the Request for Proposal (RFP) in the public domain and invited suggestions from stakeholders.
According to the Ministry, the roadshow will focus on investment opportunities, technology adoption, policy support and partnerships required to develop a robust coal gasification ecosystem and support the objectives of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.
