EV Retail Sales In India Hit 2.98 Lakh Units In August, Up 52.9% YoY: FADA
New Delhi, Sep 9 (KNN) Electric vehicle (EV) retail sales in India rose 52.9 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 2,98,448 units in August 2026, taking overall EV penetration to 12.3 per cent from 9.5 per cent a year ago, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
FADA President Sai Giridhar said, “August 2026 was the biggest-ever August for electric mobility in India... Remarkably, every one of the four EV categories set fresh August records — there was not a single category that did not,” PTI reported.
Electric Two-Wheelers, Three-Wheelers And CVs Gain
Electric two-wheeler sales led the growth, rising 67.05 per cent to 1,83,204 units from 1,09,673 units in August 2025. Electric passenger vehicle (PV) sales increased to 30,696 units from 20,210 units a year earlier.
Giridhar noted, “Electric two-wheelers, up 67 per cent year-on-year, held above 10 per cent penetration even in a seasonally soft, non-festive month and now account for over 60 per cent of all EV retails.”
Electric three-wheeler retail sales rose 25.28 per cent to 79,846 units from 63,736 units in August 2025.
Electric commercial vehicle (CV) sales nearly tripled to 4,702 units from 1,631 units a year ago, marking the segment’s highest-ever monthly sales, FADA noted.
“Three-wheelers remain structurally electric at 65.3 per cent, and passenger EVs grew 52 per cent to a 7.6 per cent share,” he added.
