Govt approves 9 plastic manufacturing parks so far

New Delhi, Mar 28 (KNN) The government has approved nine plastic parks upto now in states of Assam, Madhya Pradesh (two Plastic Parks), Odisha, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, said Bhagwanth Khuba, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers.

All the plastic parks are currently in various stages of completion and one park has been accorded “in-principle” approval for establishment at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, he informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

In Maharashtra no application is pending from the state government for setting up a plastic park in the state and the State Government/Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) is implementing the respective Plastic Parks has to ensure that the units being set up in these Plastic Parks obtain necessary clearances and comply with statutory environmental norms, MoS Khuba said.

The implementing agency is also providing various incentives in these Plastic Parks.

In FY21, India exported plastics raw material worth USD 3.29 billion, as India’s major strengths is the availability of raw materials in the country. Thus, plastic processors do not have to depend on import. These raw materials, including polypropylene, high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, and PVC, are manufactured domestically. (KNN Bureau)
