New Delhi, Aug 18 (KNN) The government has approved 31 additional proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), involving investments of Rs 7,877 crore, as part of efforts to strengthen domestic electronics component manufacturing and reduce import dependence.
The latest approvals take the total number of projects cleared under the scheme to 106, with cumulative approved investment of Rs 69,548 crore. The projects are spread across 15 states and cover 30 product categories.
Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Of the 106 projects approved so far, including 31 approved today, 38 plants have already commenced manufacturing, while another 16 projects are at advanced stages of construction or machinery installation.”
The newly approved projects are expected to generate production worth Rs 82,243 crore and create 9,588 direct jobs. An additional investment proposal of Rs 1,033 crore by already approved applicant Wipro Global Engineering and Electronic Materials for manufacturing copper-clad laminates has also been cleared.
Focus on Critical Components
The latest approvals cover 20 target-segment products across sub-assemblies, components, supply-chain products and capital goods.
The projects include manufacturing of camera and display modules, optical transceivers, connectors, relays, transducers, filters, capacitors, coils, antennas, speakers and microphones, enclosures and metal shielding covers.
The approvals also cover key supply-chain materials, including anode material for lithium-ion cells, rare-earth permanent magnets, acetylene black, electrolyte additives, metallised films for capacitors and hermetic terminals.
Five companies have also received approvals for manufacturing capital goods and related parts.
Projects Across 10 States
The newly approved projects are located across Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The government said domestic production capacity has reached or exceeded demand in some product categories, including anode material, optical transceivers and relays.
Cumulative Impact
The 106 approved projects are expected to generate Rs 5.34 lakh crore in production and 74,628 direct jobs, besides an estimated 2.5 lakh indirect employment opportunities.
The ECMS was notified in April 2025 with an initial outlay of Rs 22,919 crore. The Union Budget 2026-27 increased the scheme's outlay to Rs 40,000 crore.
According to government data, India's electronics production increased from about Rs 1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to Rs 13.11 lakh crore in 2025-26, while electronics exports rose from around Rs 38,000 crore to Rs 4.24 lakh crore during the same period.
The government has set a target of developing a USD 500 billion domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem by 2030-31.
