Govt Rolls Out Multiple Schemes to Strengthen UP’s Textile, Handloom & Carpet Sectors

New Delhi, Jul 29 (KNN) The Government has implemented various schemes to support the textile, handloom and handicraft sectors, including in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh.

The information was provided by Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.

The schemes include the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for man-made fibre (MMF) textiles and technical textiles, the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), SAMARTH, the National Handloom Development Programme, the Raw Material Supply Scheme (RMSS) and the National Handicrafts Development Programme (NHDP).

Under RMSS and the National Handloom Development Programme, support is provided for raw materials, upgraded looms and accessories, worksheds, skill development, design innovation, infrastructure, branding, e-commerce and domestic and overseas marketing. 

In Uttar Pradesh, 86 small handloom clusters and one mega handloom cluster have received financial assistance of Rs. 96.34 crore, benefiting 25,885 handloom workers between 2014-15 and 2025-26.

During the same period, 143 marketing events were organised, 13 handloom producer companies were formed and six Urban Haats became operational in Varanasi, Agra, Bareilly, Rampur, Ayodhya and Jhansi. 

A total of Rs. 2.67 crore was released for the Urban Haats, while 6,865 weavers and handloom entities were onboarded on GeM.

Under the Weavers’ MUDRA Scheme, 21,566 beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh were provided loans, while 17,391 beneficiaries were enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. 

A total of 732.39 lakh kg of yarn was supplied under the Transport Subsidy and Price Subsidy.

Under NHDP, three Guru Shishya Hastshilp Prashikshan training programmes and one toolkit distribution programme were conducted in 2025-26, benefiting 138 artisans. Two Craft-Based Resource Centres were also sanctioned to the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology during the year.

Uthan Carpet Producer Company Limited was formed for Bhadohi’s handmade carpet GI craft in 2022-23, with 11 interventions sanctioned for strengthening the carpet cluster.

Under the PLI Scheme, Rs. 386.30 crore has been released across the country so far. Of the 170 companies selected under the scheme, 15 are from Uttar Pradesh.

Under SAMARTH, 1,34,503 beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh had completed training as of July 22, 2026, including 151 beneficiaries from Bhadohi district.
