India’s Electronics Exports Surge Over 11-Fold Since FY15, Reach Rs 4.24 Lakh Cr In FY26

New Delhi, Aug 14 (KNN) India’s electronics exports surged more than 11-fold to Rs 4.24 lakh crore in FY2025-26 from around Rs 38,000 crore in FY2014-15, according to data shared by the government.

Electronics has emerged as the country’s third-largest export category, with exports reaching USD 47.96 billion in FY2025. The growth has been supported by initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0), ANI reported, citing a government release.

Mobile Phones Become Largest Export Product

India has also emerged as the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer. Mobile phones rose from the 153rd-largest export item in FY2014-15 to the country’s largest export product in FY2025-26.

Mobile phone production increased from Rs 18,000 crore in FY2014-15 to Rs 6.27 lakh crore in FY2025-26, while exports rose 165-fold from Rs 1,500 crore to Rs 2.59 lakh crore during the period.

The mobile manufacturing sector has generated around 12 lakh jobs, with women accounting for nearly 70 per cent of its workforce.

Digital Economy, Connectivity Expand

The government said the digital economy now accounts for up to 14 per cent of India’s GDP. Internet subscribers have increased more than four-fold from 25.15 crore in 2014 to over 109.2 crore as of March 2026.

Wireless data costs have also declined sharply from Rs 308 per GB in 2014 to Rs 7.51 per GB in 2026. Average mobile broadband download speeds increased from 13.67 Mbps in March 2022 to 132 Mbps in December 2025, according to Ookla’s Global Speedtest Index.

5G services are now available in 99.9 per cent of districts across states and Union Territories, with 5.63 lakh 5G Base Transceiver Stations deployed as of June 2026.

Rural connectivity has expanded as well, with 6.31 lakh villages covered by 4G services through BSNL and other telecom operators.

The government said the expansion of electronics manufacturing, exports and digital infrastructure reflects the growing role of technology-led manufacturing and connectivity in the Indian economy.
