India’s Gem & Jewellery Exports Rise 3.14Percent to USD 2.30 Billion in August
New Delhi, Sep 15 (KNN) India’s gross gem and jewellery exports rose 3.14Percent year-on-year in US dollar terms to USD 2.30 billion in August 2026, with studded gold jewellery exports surging 51.22Percent to USD 642.85 million, according to data from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
The council said gross gem and jewellery exports increased 12.52Percent in rupee terms to Rs 21,945.87 crore in August from Rs 19,503.52 crore in the same month last year, The Indian Express reported.
Cut and polished diamond exports also showed an increase in volume during the month. Export volumes rose 3.23Percent to 13.36 lakh carats in August 2026 from 12.94 lakh carats in August 2025, indicating signs of renewed demand in the global diamond market.
However, cut and polished diamond exports remained under pressure in value terms. Gross exports stood at USD 876.40 million (Rs 8,397.82 crore) in July 2026, down 18.23Percent from USD 1,071.73 million (Rs 9,230.69 crore) a year earlier.
Gold jewellery exports, including plain and studded jewellery, stood at USD 1,040.87 million (Rs 9,972.09 crore) in July 2026, registering growth of 8.73Percent in US dollar terms and 21.03Percent in rupee terms from the previous year.
The strong performance of studded gold jewellery reflects growing demand for finished and value-added jewellery in international markets.
The shift towards value-added products is also increasing the use of diamonds in finished jewellery within India, supporting greater value creation across the manufacturing chain.
GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali said, “August’s export performance reflects the resilience and adaptability of India’s gem and jewellery industry. The increase in diamond export volumes, along with the sharp growth in studded gold jewellery exports, highlights India’s growing ability to create greater value by transforming precious materials into finished jewellery.”
