New Delhi, Jun 23 (KNN) The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) to establish the NHAI Centre for Economics of Transportation, Mobility and Logistics.
According to NHAI, the centre will function as a dedicated research institution focused on the economics of transportation, mobility and logistics. It will undertake applied research to support policy formulation, investment planning and decision-making in the road transport sector.
The centre will conduct studies on areas including national highway economics, freight logistics, modal integration, regional economic impacts of highway investments, toll policy, asset monetisation, road safety and technology adoption in highway operations and maintenance.
Research findings and policy recommendations generated by the centre will be made available through policy briefs, working papers, reports, consultations and academic engagements.
The outputs are expected to support the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, NHAI and other government agencies in transport-sector planning and policymaking.
NHAI will support the establishment and operations of the centre for a period of 10 years.
The institution will be guided by an advisory committee comprising economists, transportation experts, public policy specialists and academicians, while a separate steering committee will oversee research priorities and review outputs.
