PM Modi Launches Development Projects Worth Over Rs 18,800 Crore In Surat
New Delhi, June 8 (KNN) Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, dedicated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 18,800 crore in Surat, Gujarat, spanning the road, power, industrial and healthcare sectors.
The projects are aimed at strengthening infrastructure, improving connectivity, supporting industrial growth and enhancing public services in Gujarat. Addressing a gathering in Surat, Modi said the initiatives would contribute to economic development while improving the ease of living for citizens.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of sustainable development and environmental conservation, noting that several ongoing and planned initiatives in Surat focus on resource efficiency, wastewater treatment, clean energy and urban sustainability.
He also referred to the Tapi Barrage Project, electric mobility initiatives and the expansion of renewable energy-based industrial activities in the region.
Referring to the global economic and geopolitical environment, Modi said India has continued to advance despite challenges such as supply chain disruptions, geopolitical conflicts and energy market volatility.
He noted that Gujarat plays a significant role in India’s renewable energy sector and contributes substantially to the country’s clean energy capacity.
The Prime Minister reviewed developments in energy infrastructure and highlighted investments made in renewable energy, railway electrification, ethanol blending, electricity transmission systems, gas pipeline networks and energy storage infrastructure.
He said these efforts are aimed at strengthening India's energy security and reducing dependence on external sources.
Modi also highlighted the importance of industrial and maritime infrastructure in Gujarat, particularly the Hazira region, which hosts activities related to energy, steel, defence manufacturing and port-based trade. He said the region has emerged as a key industrial and logistics hub supporting economic growth and manufacturing activity.
The Prime Minister further underlined the role of major connectivity projects, including the Dedicated Freight Corridor, Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor and the Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway, in improving freight movement and supporting industrial development.
He noted that road infrastructure projects are also expanding connectivity in tribal and rural regions of Gujarat, improving access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities.
As part of the programme, Modi inaugurated a new Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in Surat, aimed at improving healthcare access for workers and their families.
The development projects are expected to strengthen Gujarat’s infrastructure network, support industrial expansion, improve connectivity and contribute to long-term economic growth in the state.
