PM Modi Launches Development Projects Worth Rs 2,970 Crore In Daman
New Delhi, Jun 8 (KNN) Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, dedicated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth around Rs 2,970 crore in Daman, covering healthcare, aviation, tourism, education, connectivity and urban infrastructure sectors.
The projects are aimed at strengthening public infrastructure, improving connectivity and expanding access to essential services across the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.
During the event, the Prime Minister said the initiatives would support economic activity and create new opportunities for residents, particularly the youth.
Referring to the broader economic environment, Modi highlighted GDP growth at 7.7 per cent in 2025–26 and 7.8 per cent in the quarter ended March 31, 2026. He said the figures reflected the resilience of the Indian economy amid ongoing global challenges.
The Prime Minister also reviewed developments in the healthcare sector, citing improvements in institutional deliveries and child immunisation coverage, along with the expansion of medical infrastructure in the region.
He noted that new healthcare facilities and medical education opportunities are expected to improve access to advanced treatment and healthcare services.
In the education sector, Modi highlighted the expansion of higher education and skill development infrastructure, including smart classrooms, technical training facilities and a new National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campus.
The Prime Minister referred to solar energy adoption in Diu and ongoing efforts to expand clean energy generation through rooftop solar installations and related programmes.
Tourism and infrastructure development featured prominently in the projects announced. Investments in transport facilities, tourism infrastructure and urban development are expected to improve regional connectivity and support growth in visitor arrivals and related economic activities.
The Prime Minister also noted the industrial significance of the Union Territory, including the presence of a strong man-made fibre manufacturing base in Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
He said continued support for industries and MSMEs, along with infrastructure improvements, is expected to strengthen manufacturing activity and investment potential in the region.
The projects announced are expected to contribute to economic growth, enhance public services and improve connectivity across Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
