PM Surya Ghar Scheme Crosses 50 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations, Reaches 14.8 GW Capacity

New Delhi, Aug 4 (KNN) The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has crossed 50.06 lakh rooftop solar installations, with 14.8 GW of capacity commissioned across the country. July 2026 recorded 5.06 lakh installations, the highest monthly figure since the scheme was launched.

The scheme, implemented by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy with an outlay of Rs 75,021 crore, has released Rs 28,024 crore in subsidies directly to beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer.

Nearly 19 lakh households are receiving zero electricity bills, while more than 12 lakh households earned Rs 421 crore by selling surplus power in FY 2024-25.

The scheme has added one lakh beneficiary households every six days. The daily installation rate increased from 5,038 in October 2025 to nearly 16,328 in July 2026.

More than 34,219 vendors are registered under the scheme, including 29,469 active vendors, while over 2.32 lakh people have been trained under capacity-building programmes.

Under the Utility Led Aggregation model, 1.6 lakh installations have been completed for PMAY, BPL and SC/ST households across four States. Concessional loans at 5.75 per cent have been sanctioned for 21.87 lakh applicants, with 17.5 lakh installations completed through loan financing.

The scheme operates through an online process covering application, approval and subsidy release. Jan Samarth enables paperless loan processing, while PFMS integration facilitates subsidy release. API integration with more than 80 DISCOMs and digital net-metering facilities have also been introduced.

For rooftop solar systems up to 10 kW, deemed approval and feasibility waiver provisions have been introduced. A total of 32 States and Union Territories have removed application and net-metering charges. The scheme has also provided Rs 3,807.6 crore in incentives to DISCOMs and around Rs 104 crore to Urban Local Bodies.

As of the latest data, 25,255 Central Government buildings with a combined capacity of 872 MW have been solarized. At the State level, 81,329 Government buildings with 1,450 MW capacity have been solarized. Overall, 1.06 lakh Government buildings have been solarized under the initiative.
