113.3% growth of visas on arrival in July 2014

According to data released by the Ministry of Tourism, a total number of 14,415 VoAs were issued during January-July 2014 as compared to 10,482 VoAs during corresponding period of 2013 registering a growth of 37.5 per cent.
As many as 929 VoAs were issued to South Korean nationals registering the highest number of tourists visit during July 2014.
It was followed by Japan (324), the Philippines (321), Singapore (283) and New Zealand (277).
During January-July 2014, a total number of 2,888 VoAs were issued to Japanese tourists followed by New Zealand (2,357), South Korea (2,154), the Philippines (2,010) and Singapore (2,008).
During the same period, the highest number of VoAs were issued at New Delhi airport (6,661) followed by Mumbai (2,871), Chennai (1,977), Bangalore (1,026) and Kolkata (948).
In order to attract more foreign tourists to the country, the government launched the VoA Scheme in January 2010 for citizens of five countries, namely Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, visiting India for tourism purposes. The scheme was thereafter extended to the citizens of six more countries. (KNN/ST)
