150 farmers showcase products in horticulture exhibition

Agriculture and FPA Minister Sanjeev Kumar visited the Horti-Sangam and interacted with participating farmers at the three-day event held from June-3 to 5. He briefed them on the schemes of NHB for supporting farmers.
The farmers have been assisted by the NHB in producing, processing and marketing of fruits, vegetables and spices. Besides, a large number of horticultural farmers participated in discussion sessions on various matters relating to horticulture.
Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) is a centrally sponsored scheme for the holistic growth of the horticulture sector covering fruits, vegetables, root and tuber crops, mushrooms, spices, flowers, aromatic plants, coconut, cashew, cocoa and bamboo.
According to statistics from the National Horticulture Mission, Andhra Pradesh, W Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh And Odisha are the leading states in horticulture production, contributing about 80 per cent output - first 6 states producing more than half the total output.
On the other hand, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka And UP are the leading fruit producing states (nearly 60 per cent output).
As far as leading vegetable producers are concerned, W Bengal, UP, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Odisha are the leading vegetable producers (contributing over 60 per cent output; first 4 states producing more than 40 per cent).
NHB has an objective to develop modern post-harvest management infrastructure as integral part of area expansion projects or as common facility for cluster of projects. (KNN/ST)
