16.9% growth in foreign tourist arrivals in August

New Delhi, Sept 10 (KNN) As many as 5.56 lakh foreign tourists visited the country in August 2014 as compared to 4.86 lakh in August 2013 and 4.46 lakh in August 2012.

“There has been a growth of 16.9 per cent in August 2014 over August 2013 as compared to a growth of 9.1 per cent registered in August 2013 over August 2012,” according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism.

Foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) during January-August 2014 were 46.84 lakh as compared to 43.60 lakh in 2013 showing a growth of 7.4 per cent over 4.9 per cent during January to August 2013 over corresponding period of 2012.

Foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) in August 2014 have shown a growth rate of 22.8 per cent as compared to 15.0 per cent in August 2013 over August 2012. FEEs in August 2014 were Rs 10,254 crore as compared to Rs 8,351 crore in August 2013.

FEE from tourism during January-August 2014 were Rs 77,350 crore with a growth of 12.8 per cent, as compared to Rs 68,558 crore with a growth of 15.4 per cent during January-August 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012.

Among the top 15 source countries, Bangladesh has the highest number of FTAs with 14.03 per cent followed by USA (12.74 per cent), UK (9.22 per cent), Sri Lanka (6.79 per cent) and Japan (3.56 per cent). (KNN/ST)
