22 senior tax officials fired over alleged corruption charges

New Delhi, Aug 26 (KNN) The government today fired as many as 22 high ranking income tax officers over alleged corruption charges. The officers who were made to compulsorily take retirement were those dealing with Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Customs from across various zones of the country.

There officers were compulsorily retired 22 senior tax officers under Rule 56 (J) over allegations ranging from harassment, bribe, extortion and corruption.

They all were at the level of superintendent. The Central Board of Indirect Tax and Customs (CBIC) had in June compulsorily retired as many as 27 high ranking IRS officers including 12 officers from Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) under Fundamental Rule 56(J).
