New Delhi, Jul 12 (KNN) The Ministry of Civil Aviation would shortly allow airport developers to clear the air cargo, provided the required customs related formalities are completed as per established rules and air freight station policy  is announced to enable airport developers to clear such cargo into 24x7 service mode.

These observations were made by Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ashok Lavasa here yesterday while inaugurating a round table on Indian Air Cargo: Future Outlook, organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and GMR Group.

Lavasa said that while the air freight station policy would be announced within a month time to ensure facilitation of smoother clearances of air cargo, the work was on for issuance of aviation security circular within the concerned stake holders of aviation sector including its regulator.

The Secretary, Civil Aviation was also of the view that the government including the Airport Authority of India would do its best to put in place simplified procedures and rules and regulations to ensure that air cargo is cleared off, honouring all security commitments so that the designated airport developers do not face clearance hurdles.

The cargo clearances would happen in 24x7 mode provided the established procedures were fully adhered to so that the security fronts are more than adequately taken care of with parameters established in the proposed aviation security circular, said Lavasa.

He pointed out that the air cargo logistics promotion board set up some times ago has already met twice in the last four months.  In its recent deliberations, issues relating to creating cargo complexes in the proposed 24 airports was seriously deliberated upon, said Lavasa adding that work on five airports have already started and for remaining 19 airports, the approvals are being considered at different levels.

The government has already committed 74 per cent of Foreign Direct Investments in cargo handling and since the sector was promising in terms of its economic activities that the government would do all possible to make the civil aviation so vibrant as to meet the growing aspirations of air travellers, said Lavasa.
