Indore, Feb 19 (KNN) As many as 3000 undergraduate and graduate engineering students from across the country are participating in the upcoming Baja SAEINDIA, the intercollegiate design competition of all-terrain vehicles (ATV) designing, manufacturing and testing.

The event is being organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) from February 19 to 22, 2015 at Natrax Facility of Natrip at Village Aasukhedi in Indore.

“The object of the competition is to simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Each team is competing to have its design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm. The students must function as a team to design, engineer, build, test, promote and compete with a vehicle within the limits of the rules,” said the society.

Participants must also generate financial support for their project and manage their educational priorities in the four-day event.

The goal of each team is to design and build a single-seat, all-terrain, sporting vehicle whose structure contains the driver. The vehicle is to be a prototype for a reliable, maintainable, ergonomic, and economic production vehicle which serves a recreational user market, sized at approximately 4000 units per year.

Vehicles entered into Baja SAE competitions are expected to be designed and fabricated in accordance with good engineering practices from the participants.

BAJA SAE was launched in 2007 providing the growing crop of engineers from colleges across the country a place to showcase their talent and fuel the growth of the Indian automotive industry. (KNN/ST)
