A day ahead of pay day most Public Sector Bank employees on strike today

New Delhi, May 30 (KNN) Nearly one million bank employees of public sector banks are on strike today across the country impacting the banking transactions.

The two-day strike is likely to affect the payments also as it is the month end when many employers pay salaries to their employees.

Most of the banks like State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda etc have already informed their customers that functioning of branches and offices will be impacted if the strike takes off.

Meanwhile, the private banks like ICICI, HDFC, Axis and Kotak Mahindra is expected to be normal except for delays in cheque clearance.

The strike has been called in the wake of various demands made by the bank unions  including wage revision.

The United Forum of Banking Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine bank unions has called for a nationwide bank strike  against wage hike proposed by the Indian Banks' Association (IBA).

According to some media reports, the ATM security guards are also likely to participate in the protest. And with protest dates coinciding with the end of the month, salary withdrawals may get affected too.

The latest round of wage revision for all banks is due from November 1, 2017.

On 5 May, the IBA refused to revise wages for all officers, citing poor financial conditions at banks.
