New Delhi, Apr 8 (KNN) The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has organised a two-day fair in Gurgaon beginning today to attract foreign buyers and boost exports from the sector which has been hit hard by the global demand slowdown.

The April 2013 edition of ‘India Market Days,’ was inaugurated today by Chairman of Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), Dr A Sakthivel.

‘India Market Days’ is a project approved by the Ministry of Textiles and is funded under the Market Access Initiative (MAI) Scheme of Ministry of Commerce and Industry in order to provide an opportunity to strike best deals for bulk orders by analysing and choosing from the wide spectrum of existing and emerging products and rates at one place.

During his address at the Apparel House, Gurgaon, Chairman AEPC said, “The event will help the garment exporters find the right partners for their business.”

Market Days is one of AEPC’s export promotion initiatives for the year 2013, wherein we are hopeful that the apparel exporters will generate good business deals with buyers from the continent countries, Sakthivel added.

Speaking at the event, Chairman (Export Promotion), Sudhir Sekhri, in his statement said, “This Fair will help you develop your creative collection and augment your resources.”

“It is heartening to note that AEPC is taking concrete and planned steps to promote the Apparel House by holding regular India Market Days. I am also thankful for the grant which Ministry of Textiles has given for this purpose.” Convener, India Market Days Lalit Thukral, said.

More than 100 show-room holders will be exhibiting their latest collections to buyers from countries like Greece, Australia, Botswana, South Africa, Ecuador and USA in the event which will boost Indian exports of garment and fashion accessories.

Several leading buying agents will be visiting India Market Days. Previously, buyers from Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, also visited the India Market Days fair.

Products which will be showcased include children's wear, ladies wear, men's wear, silk garments, handbags and home furnishing.

India's apparel export has declined by 2 per cent to USD 1.14 billion in December due to fall in demand in western markets, particularly the EU and the US. (KNN)
