Agriculture Minister Reviews ICAR’s Research & Development Roadmap
New Delhi, May 18 (KNN) Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a high-level meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in New Delhi to review the functioning and activities of the organisation.
During the meeting, the Union Minister conducted a detailed assessment of ICAR’s ongoing programmes and future plans aimed at strengthening Indian agriculture and supporting farming communities across the country.
ICAR Director General and Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Dr M. L. Jat briefed the Minister on various initiatives being implemented by the Council and outlined the future roadmap for agricultural research and development.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan said agriculture remains the primary source of livelihood for a large section of India’s population and continues to be a key pillar of the national economy. He stressed that efforts should focus on making agriculture more productive, low-cost and profitable for farmers.
The Union Minister laid emphasis on promoting integrated and sustainable farming practices across the country. He said wider adoption of integrated farming would help increase farmers’ incomes while also protecting natural resources and supporting environmental sustainability.
Highlighting the impact of climate change on agriculture, Chouhan directed officials to prepare state-specific agricultural roadmaps based on agro-climatic conditions in consultation with state governments.
