Agriculture Ministry approves funding of more 25 startups to boost millet consumption

New Delhi, Nov 25 (KNN) The central government has approved funding of another 25 startups to encourage the consumption of millet after funding about 66 argritech startups so far, said Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday. 

Over Rs 6.25 crore have been invested in 66 startups, confirmed the minister while addressing High Commissioners/ Ambassadors at the pre-launch celebration of the IYOM 2023. 

These efforts are in the direction of promoting millet consumption under the International Year of Millets 2023.

“Another 25 startups have also been approved for further funding which is done by the ministry to support sustainable production, creating awareness for higher consumption, developing market and value chain and research-development activities,” he said.

Moreover, it is also aimed at helping startups in research and development and supporting startup entrepreneurs with recipes and value-added products to promote millet consumption.

India has more than 500 startups working in the millet value-added chain.

The Indian Institute of Millets Research has incubated 250 startups under RKVY-Raftar. (KNN Bureau)
