Centre Extends MSP Procurement Deadline For Wheat, Gram And Masoor In UP To July 8

New Delhi, Jun 26 (KNN) The Centre has extended the Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement period for wheat, gram and masoor in Uttar Pradesh until July 8, providing farmers additional time to sell their produce under the Rabi Marketing Season 2026-27.

The decision was announced during a high-level review meeting between Union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, where the Centre also approved 6,18,482 rural houses for the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).

The procurement deadline extension aims to ensure that farmers are not deprived of MSP benefits due to delayed arrivals, adverse weather conditions or congestion at procurement centres, thereby helping prevent distress sales.

The approval for 6.18 lakh pucca houses forms part of the new phase of PMAY-G (2024-25 to 2028-29), under which the Centre plans to construct an additional two crore rural houses across the country.

During the high-level meeting, Uttar Pradesh's preparedness for the Kharif season was also reviewed amid concerns over a weak monsoon and possible El Niño conditions.

Officials discussed district-specific contingency plans, including promoting short-duration and low-water-requirement crops and ensuring timely availability of seeds, fertilisers and technical advisories.

The Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government also reviewed a proposal to prepare a long-term scientific agricultural roadmap for the state. The roadmap will focus on crop planning, irrigation, water conservation, technology adoption and marketing to strengthen agricultural productivity and improve climate resilience.

Senior ministers and officials from the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government participated in the meeting and reviewed the implementation of agriculture and rural development programmes in the state.
