Finance Minister To Introduce 109 New Crop Varieties Across 32 Fields in 2024 Budget

New Delhi, Jul 23 (KNN) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced key agricultural measures in her 2024 Union Budget speech.

The government plans to introduce 109 new crop varieties across 32 field and horticulture crops, designed to be high-yielding and climate-resilient.

In addition, Sitharaman revealed a significant push towards natural farming. The initiative aims to involve one crore (10 million) farmers in natural farming practices over the next two years. This program will include support for certification and branding of naturally grown produce.

These measures are intended to boost agricultural productivity while promoting sustainable farming practices in India.

The focus on climate-resilient crops and natural farming methods suggests a response to ongoing environmental challenges facing the agricultural sector.
