Traders in Trichy plan new body to enhance food exports from region

Trichy, June 13 (KNN) The Tiruchirappalli Agri-Business Incubation Forum and the Export-Import Federation of Trichy on Monday floated the idea to set up a consortium comprising industrialists from Trichy to enhance food exports.

The stakeholders at the meeting discussed ways to scale up exports in the food sector from the region.

They proposed a consortium that would frequently meet with officials from the state and Union governments to promote entrepreneurship and develop supportive infrastructure in the region. 

At the meeting, members of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), the directorate of plant protection, quarantine, and storage, the national agro foundation, and Southern Railway explained the schemes available for the exporters. 

Mandatory tests, certifications, and standards required for exporting food products were explained to entrepreneurs. The participants were also briefed about ideal products, including vegetables and fruits, that could be exported from the region to the Middle East and the Southeast Asian countries via the Trichy International Airport.

They also discussed support available through the proposed Trichy-Nagapattinam agro-industrial corridor.

“We have been in talks with leading banks seeking financial support for the aspiring exporters to scale up their operations,” said N Kanagasabapathy, coordinator of the Export-Import Federation of Trichy.  (KNN Bureau)
