Aiming at doubling exports, COIR board sets fresh targets for next three years

New Delhi, July 27 (KNN) In a bid to boost the COIR export from India, the COIR board has revised its target for the next three years, MSME Minister Giriraj Singh informed Rajya Sabha.

The Minister said that during the year 2015-16, the growth percentage of export was around 20 per cent as compared to the exports of 2014-15. Since then the figures have kept rising.

Citing statistics, the Minister said that in 2014-15 the quantity of COIR export was 626666 Metric Tonnes, which increased to 722020 in 2015-16. The export further accelerated to 957045 metric tonnes in 2016-17.

Referring to it in terms of the monetary value, the Minister informed that export worth 163033.77 lakh rupees was done in 2014-15, following 190142.52 lakh rupees in 2015-16. In the financial year 2016-17, the exports were valued at 228164.82 lakh rupees.

The Minister added that in order to boost the exports for the next three years, the government is planning to implement target oriented export market promotion programs. The COIR Board have been organizing  several events and fairs to promote coir from India in the global market.

Also the board has announced financial subsidy and technical support programs for setting up coir industrial units. Insurance scheme for coir workers have also been introduced in order to encourage employment in the sector. (KNN/ DA)
