Allow pharma MSMEs to export Ethanol based sanitisers to meet needs: LUB

New Delhi, Apr 24 (KNN) Increasing number of COVID-19 cases in India and globally has made sanitisers and masks the most sought essential medical products and because of the huge demand there is a shortage of the same in the market.

To overcome the shortage of hand sanitisers, masks and PPE Kits, Laghu Udyog Bharti (LUB)-Pharma Wing Head Dr Rajesh Gupta has written to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) Dr. V G Somani suggesting few measures.

LUB in its letter suggested to allow Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to export Ethanol based sanitisers to fulfil the huge needs.

''Since there is huge demand of sanitisers and there have been repeated statements regarding the shortage of the same. It has been observed that ''Ethanol'' (Ethyl Alcohol) is a very effective sanitisers and is obtained from ''Molasses'' which is available in abundance in our country from liquor manufacturers. We as MSME industry, therefore request you to allow export of the Ethanol based sanitisers to fulfill the huge needs, if the world community at this critical juncture,'' LUB suggested.

LUB further urged that medicines such as hydroxy-chloroquine, choloquine, lopinavir, ritonavir, favitiravir and Ivermectin, should be open for manufacturing to all over India MSME pharma industry units for domestic markets and exports under the lucrative norms to fulfill the needs of Indian and Global patients on immediate basis.

''PPE kits and Masks for export markets should also be allowed and carried by way of governments promotion too,'' LUB said.
