Aluminium production is adequate for domestic needs

New Delhi Mar 11 (KNN) The production of aluminium is sufficient to meet the current demand of the country according to the Minister of Mines, Dinsha Patel. 
Speaking in the LokSabha recently, Patel said that the consumption in 2011-12 was 1531654.81 tonnes compared to 1479212.09 tonnes in 2010-11, as per the figures provided by Indian Bureau of Mines and aluminium producers such as the National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), Hindalco Industries Limited (HINDALCO) and Vedanta Group.
Currently, Odisha, Chhatisgarh and Uttar Pradeshare the country’s major aluminium producers.
The Minister also stated that aluminium prices showed a marginal decline by 0.14 per cent to Rs 106.10 per kg recently, as speculators offloaded positions driven by the global trend which showed a decline in US factory orders.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, aluminium for delivery in March declined by 15 paise, or 0.14 per cent, to Rs 106.10 per kg in the business turnover of 806 lots.
 Similarly, the metal for delivery in April traded lower by 10 paise, or 0.13 per cent to Rs107.75 per kg of 52 lots. (KNN/Gunj)
