Kolkata, Sept 27 (KNN)  Anupam Shah has been appointed Chairman of EEPC India, the country’s largest Export Promotion Council having nearly 12,000 members, 60 per cent of which constitute SMEs.

The former senior vice chairman of EEPC India (formerly Engineering Export Promotion Council), Shah who was also the past President of Merchant Chamber, Kolkata, succeeds Aman Chadha.

“With his engineering-management background and vast exposure and experience in the international market, he will provide key inputs to the policy makers, including the Commerce Ministry, Finance Ministry and other infrastructure ministries for devising an Export Policy and Vision which will enable India deal effectively with difficult global economic situations and take the country to a robust export growth,” said an EEPC press release.

The new chairman would also interact actively with various state governments which have leading export bases and clusters and work for improvement of physical and manufacturing infrastructure so that a key policy issue – high transaction cost is addressed.

His credentials include a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from the Boston University in USA, Shah and an MBA in Marketing and Corporate Strategy from the University of Michigan, USA.

Shah assumes this new responsibility at a time when the engineering sector is up against many challenges in the export markets.

“Though engineering exports, the second largest contributors to the country’s overall export basket, have turned positive by 2.27 per cent in August, the cumulative figure for April-August remains negative (-) 4.19 per cent,” the release said.

Shah is a Director in Kolkata based Nipha Exports (P) Ltd which is a premier engineering Government of India recognized Export House exporting a wide range of high technology engineering products  to Middle East, the USA, Europe, Australia, Africa and South-East Asia.  (KNN/ES)
