Apparel export records highest growth of 31%: AEPC

New Delhi, Nov 21 (KNN)   Apparel products have shown the highest growth of 31 per cent in export in October 2013, said a release from Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).

“Apparel exports were to the tune of USD 1190 million in October 2013-14 with increase of 30.91 per cent against the corresponding month of last financial year. In rupee terms, the exports have increased by 53.3 per cent in October 2013-14 over the same month of previous FY,” said AEPC Chairman A Sakthivel.

The council’s effort and investment in the right markets coupled with government support have paid the dividends, he said.

Sakthivel further said that export during April-October of 2013-14 had increased by 15.5 per cent compared to the corresponding year.

“India exported USD 238 million apparels in Sept 2013 with increase of 15 per cent over the same month of previous year,” he said, sharing data on imports to the US.

The chairman also stated details of apparel imports of European Union which is the biggest trading partner.

“EU’s apparel import accounted for USD 47.8 billion for the Jan.-July 2013 with no increase over the previous year, India’s export to EU for the Jan-July 2013 amounted to USD 3.4 billion with 1 per cent increase compared to same period of previous year,” he said.

Informing about the region wise ready-made garments exports Chairman AEPC said, EU is the top most RMG export destination of India for April-August 2013 with USD 2384.5 million followed by North American region where exports were to the tune of USD 1476.58 million, West Asia is the third largest regional apparel export destination of India with USD 1043.33 million for the same period.  (KNN/ST)
