Apparel exports up by 12% in June despite overall export decline: AEPC

New Delhi, Jul 17 (KNN)  The country’s apparel exports have seen a positive growth of over 12 per cent to USD 1.240 billion in June despite the overall slowdown in the economy and decline in country’s overall exports to 4.56 per cent.

"Apparel exports touched USD 1240 million in June 2013-14 with an increase of 12.13 per cent against the corresponding month of last financial year," Chairman AEPC, A Sakthivel told the media when visiting the 51st India international Garment Fair (IIGF) - 2014 at Pragati Maidan here. 

He said that factory compliant manufacturing in India has surged with new and unprecedented export orders in the current season.  Further, world renounced chain stores and international brands have preferred expanding their sourcing of the merchandise from India.

"The flow of expansion of orders in India is expected to fetch additional USD 3 billion business in the country," he added.

Sakthivel also said that in order to meet the targets, Indian textile industry is trying to reach non-traditional markets like Chile, Uruguay, Columbia, Panama, Israel, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Denmark, Croatia, Estonia and Japan. 

He said they were putting energies into making garment collection, fabric shows and BSM in India. Among the events planned for 2013-14 are 24 export promotion events, including participating in 7 International Fairs, organizing 6 overseas Buyer Seller Meets, and 11 domestic export promotion events.

Meanwhile, in July India is also participating in the events like Fatex Fair in Paris, France, Hong Kong Fashion Week Hong Kong and International Fashion Fair (IFF), Tokyo, Japan.  Also, in August it will be participating in the Sourcing at Magic, Las Vegas USA.  Buyer seller meets in New York and Spain will follow according to the AEPC Chairman.

In order to promote the MSME sector, AEPC is organizing a Mega Apparel and Textile Show in JFW International Fashion Fair (IFF), Tokyo, Japan from 17-19 July.  Over 25,000 trade visitors attended the IFF show last year in July, 2012.

In addition, on the basis of recommendations of the Ministry of Textiles, the Ministry of Commerce has approved funding under Market Access Initiative for the Mega Apparel and Textile Show in Tokyo, Japan.  MAI support is for 160 booths in the fair.

The Mega Show is being organized under the MAI Assistance Scheme of Ministry of Commerce, Government of India.  The Council will be providing the facilities of interpreter, participation in the fashion show, overseas publicity, inland publicity, publicity through signages, banners standees and space allocation in the priority area of IFF Fair.  

Preference shall be given to units under MSME and having an export turnover below Rs 15.00 crores during the previous year. (KNN)
