Artisans celebrate Samajik Nyay Divas, showcase products at IITF

New Delhi, Nov 19 (KNN) As many as 73 stalls have been allotted to artisans from different states across the country who are displaying and selling their products to mark Samajik Nyay Divas at the ongoing Indian International Trade Fair (IITF).

Artisans from states and union territories of Assam, Karnataka, Gujrat, Delhi, Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have been represented at the fair.  Their products include wooden toys, pearl jewellery, dress material, shawls, tie and dye products, Sanganer print, handloom, painting, wood inlay, Banarasi sarees, Bamboo craft, Sozni work and Leather items, according to an official release.

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thaawar Chand Gehlot inaugurated "Samajik Nyay Divas" on November 16.  The pavilion focuses on the ministry's developmental programmes and highlights its achievement through the exhibition by artisans.

A total sale of Rs 15 lakh has been reported by the artisans on November, 2014, as per a release from the ministry.

On the occasion, Gehlot congratulated the artisans, who have come from almost all parts of the country and the ministry, CMDs and MDs of the apex corporations and their officers for organizing the event.

He suggested that such exhibitions should be held from time to time in various cities where the artisans of the target groups can be invited to showcase their products and skills.

The minister also stressed the need for upgradation of skill and asked the ministry and the apex corporations to take necessary action in the direction of providing skill development and including technological inputs in skill upgradation of the traditional arts and crafts of the target groups.

Appreciating the work of artisans, the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla said the apex corporations and other organizations have done a commendable job in organizing the event culminating in National integration and bonding among the artisans coming from far of places of almost all the state.

He expressed his hope that the exhibition will create adequate awareness about the developmental programmes of the ministry being implemented at the grass-root level.
He further added that the corporations providing loans to the members of the target group have continuously been able to cater to the needs of a large segment of the artisans. (KNN/ST)
