Ashwini Vaishnaw Highlights India’s Growing Role In Global Supply Chains

New Delhi, Apr 28 (KNN) India is poised to emerge as a trusted global value and supply chain partner in electronics manufacturing, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

He made the remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Google Cloud India AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, held in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and industry leaders.

The project, with an estimated investment of USD 15 billion, is being developed in partnership with Adani ConneX and Airtel Nxtra, and will include a 1 GW hyperscale AI data centre. The state government has allocated around 600 acres of land for the development.

Vaishnaw noted that India has already established itself as a global leader in IT services and is rapidly advancing in electronics manufacturing.

He highlighted progress in mobile phone production, with the sector emerging as a major export contributor, and said nearly half of domestic electronics demand is now being met through local manufacturing.

He also emphasised the government’s focus on emerging sectors such as semiconductors, quantum technologies, space, and artificial intelligence, stating that India is becoming a reliable partner in global technology supply chains. He urged global firms, including Google, to expand manufacturing of servers, GPUs, and chips within India.

Describing the project as transformative, the Minister said Visakhapatnam is set to evolve into an “AI hub,” with the new infrastructure expected to drive innovation across sectors such as healthcare, education, logistics, and agriculture.

Industry representatives highlighted the strategic importance of the project, noting that the AI hub will strengthen India’s digital infrastructure and position the country as a key player in the global AI ecosystem.
