August 7 likely to be marked as 'National Handloom Day'

New Delhi, July 9 (KNN) August 7 – the day Swadeshi Movement was launched in 1905, is likely to be marked at the ‘National Handloom Day’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
 
The move envisages to promote genuine, global quality products in international markets.

Committee of Secretaries has cleared the proposal and further steps are being taken for formal notification on observing August 7 as National Handloom Day, according to a leading media agency.

Meanwhile, Union Textile Minister Santosh Gangwar wrote to the prime minister in this regard recently.

"The Ministry plans to organise a national-level function on August 7 to mark the first National Handloom Day in which a large number of distinguished handloom weavers and eminent personalities would be invited," Gangwar wrote in the letter.

He also invited Modi to be the Chief Guest on the occasion to boost the morale of handloom weavers of the country. (KNN Bureau)
