New Delhi, Oct 16 (KNN) In a joint venture to upscale energy efficient interventions in the steel re-rolling mills (SRRM) sector in India, AusAID, in partnership with the Government of India has proposed a project towards energy efficient production.

The programme is a part of the ongoing pilot United Nations Development Programme-Global Environment Facility (UNDP-GEF) project with an investment of USD 3.6 million.

The objectives of the programme comprise implementing energy efficient technologies in 300 units from SRRM sector and five units in other subsectors of small scale steel industry such as induction furnace units.

It has also proposed the development of knowledge products to propagate widespread replication of the technologies in the target sector; and accelerating awareness in the sector about energy efficiency intervention that leads to huge savings in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while improving productivity.

AusAID is an Australian Government’s overseas aid program to improve the lives of millions of people in developing countries. (KNN/ST)
