Authorities remain adamant over issue of re-instating evicted vendors, says NASVI

New Delhi, Oct 24 (KNN) The Street Vendors across Delhi NCR are highly disappointed and anguished with the state authories and the government who ordered their eviction right before the Diwali, a time when shopping of all kinds is on its peak.

Unhappy with municipalities, the street vendors held a demonstration at the Civic Centre in Delhi to voice anger against the authorities.

The protest is being held under the leadership of National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI).

While speaking to KNN India, Samridhi Uniyal, Legal Adviser of NASVI said that the South Delhi Municipal Commissioner was asked to allow the vendors to install their stalls till the Town Vending Committees (TVCs) complete its survey.

''I personally spoke to South Delhi Commissioner and for the name sake he gave me assurance and told me that tomorrow, he will be meeting with the other commissioner and he will escalate the matter and discussed it,'' said Samridhi.

''He was very adamant over the restoration of the evicted vendors and said,'' how can we re-instate them until and unless TVCs are formed? , Samridhi added.

''However, he was ok with those vendors, who are currently sitting with their stalls in various parts and he will not bother them. This assurance was given verbally and not in writing,'' Samridhi added.

While answering a question over the TVCs survey, Samridhi said the autnorities have told them that after hiring of agencies and completing the survey, the vendors will be re-instated. Untill then nothing could be done.

While answering a question over street vendors' business, Samridhi, said, ''Vendors are scared of being caught and aftermath results. Forget about their business, they are not even allowed to sit with their stalls and sell the goods or items. I am here at Jama Masjid. vendors here want to put up shops and earn their living but because of the eviction they can't do it.''

''The way police handles vendors is very rough,'' she said
