New Delhi, Feb 21 (KNN)  The National Medicinal Plant Board has asked Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani (ASU) drug manufacturers to maintain a record of raw materials used on a yearly basis and submit the same to the state drug licensing authority.

“Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, vide Rule 157A of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945 had made it obligatory for Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani Drug Manufacturers to maintain a record of raw materials used on yearly basis in a prescribed format and provide the same to the Drug Controller/State Drug Licensing Authority in whose jurisdiction the unit is located and to NMPB or an agency nominated by NMPB in this regard,” said a notification from the National Medicinal Plant Board.

The notification has been issued to enable the Department of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) to establish a reliable database of raw material consumed by ASU licensed drug manufacturers to help them formulate a better implementable policy for the development of the sector.

NMPB has engaged the Centre for Research, Planning and Action (CERPA) as the agency to collect and compile the data for the years 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13.

Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) was created in March,1995 and re-named as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in November, 2003 with a view to providing focused attention to development of education and research in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy systems.
