Banks, factories, govt offices, public transport…all to be hit by today’s trade union strike

New Delhi, Sept 2 (KNN) Despite government’s efforts to get the all India strike called back, at least 18 crore workers from at least 10 central trade unions (CTUs) are participating in the 'Bharat bandh' today.

The strike has been called against the anti-labour policies of the Narendra Modi government.

Also participating in the strike are the employees of banks, public sector, telecom and factories.

Throwing the banking activities out of service, employees of at least six public sector banks have joined the strike. However, private banks and ATMs are functional.

Public Transport employees and auto rickshaw drivers are also likely to take part in the Bandh.

The workers of state-run Coal India Ltd are among those who will strike today.

Power plants have enough coal on hand to operate even if nothing is mined over the next 50 to 60 days, said Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Tuesday that the government will release state employees' bonuses for the last two years, and increase minimum wages for unskilled labourers.

The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, which is affiliated with the Hindu nationalist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, is not joining the strike. (KNN Bureau)
