Basic metals, chemicals & petroleum products push WPI inflation to 15.88% in May
New Delhi, June 14 (KNN) The Wholesale Price Inflation (WPI) for the month of May 2022 has been recorded at 15.88 per cent as compared to 13.11 per cent in May 2021. The number has remained in double digits for the fourteenth consecutive month.
The primary reason for this increase is the hike in the prices of mineral oils, crude petroleum & natural gas, food articles, basic metals, non-food articles, chemicals & chemical products and food products etc. as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, as per the government data.
According to the data released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, the primary articles went up 2.80 per cent to 179.8 (provisional) in May 2022 from 174.9 (provisional) for the month of April, 2022.
The manufacturing index witnessed an increased by 0.56% to 144.8 (provisional) in May, 2022 from 144.0 (provisional) for the month of April, 2022.
The Food Index consisting of 'Food Articles' from Primary Articles group and 'Food Product' from Manufactured Products group have increased from 172.9 in April, 2022 to 176.1 in May, 2022
The number comes a day after the RBI rolled out the CPI inflation which came down to 7.04% on the back of dropped fuel prices following duty cuts. (KNN Bureau)
