Bhubaneswari OCP Exceeds FY26 Coal Target; Sets 28 MT Production Goal for FY27

New Delhi, Aug 6 (KNN) Bhubaneswari Opencast Project (OCP) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) produced 26.477 million tonnes of coal in FY 2025-26, exceeding its Annual Action Plan target of 25 million tonnes by achieving 105.98 per cent of the target. The mine has a peak rated capacity of 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

Since commencing operations, the project has produced 370.4 million tonnes of coal. For FY 2026-27, the production target has been increased to 28 million tonnes, with the mine producing 7.62 million tonnes during the first quarter.

The project uses surface miner technology for coal extraction, with drilling and blasting limited to overburden removal. It is also equipped with a 25 MTPA First Mile Connectivity (FMC) silo infrastructure and an Automatic Truck Loading System (ATLS) to support coal evacuation.

According to the Ministry of Coal, more than 85 per cent of coal dispatch from the mine is carried out through rail transport using a covered conveyor network integrated with the FMC system.

The project has implemented environmental measures including continuous air quality monitoring, dust suppression systems, wheel-washing facilities and afforestation programmes.

It has received a Five-Star Rating and the Kalinga Environment Excellence Award for its environmental management initiatives.

The mine reported zero fatalities over the past five years and recorded a Profit Before Tax (PBT) of Rs1,792.60 crore during FY 2025-26.
