New Delhi, Jul 24 (KNN) All the states and union territories in the country will soon have biogas plants, said New and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal.

He said the projects are being promoted under three central sector schemes namely National Biogas and Manure Management Programme, Biogas Power Generation Programme and Programme on Energy Recovery from urban, industrial and agricultural wastes, according to an official release.

The minister also said that all the 12 projects on production of Bio-Compressed Natural Gas (Bio-CNG) from biogas set up under the programmes are operational producing 17,200 kg per day.

The projects were setup in Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab and Rajasthan under various programmes of the ministry.

He further added that over 4.75 million family type biogas plants and about 350 large plants for power generation based on cattle dung and other wastes and residues installed in the country are estimated to be generating over 51 lakh cubic meter biogas per day.

Goyal, however, informed that the government has no proposal to set up any bio-fuel plant. (KNN/ST)
