BIRAC invites proposals for product development from MSMEs, start-ups under BIPP, SBIRI

New Delhi, Feb 15 (KNN) The Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) has called for proposals for product development from MSMEs, Start-Ups and other manufacturing industries.

The proposals have been invited under two programmes – Small Business Innovation Research Initiative (SBIRI) and Biotechnology Industry Partnership Programme (BIPP).

Small Business Innovation Research Initiative (SBIRI) is a flagship Public-Private Partnership Programme of BIRAC to promote and nurture innovative research in Biotech Enterprises.

BIPP has been initiated under Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Programme (BIRAP), a unique initiative of DBT being implemented in partnership with ABLE and BCIL to nurture R&D and innovation in Biotech Industry.

SBIRI supports Discovery, Proof of Concept and Early Stage Validation while BIPP supports High Risk Research, POC to Validation and Pre-Commercialization. For the programme, single or consortia of Indian Company(ies) Registered under The Indian Companies Act 2013 with minimum 51 per cent Indian ownership and DSIR recognized in-house R&D units are eligible to apply either alone or in collaboration with a partner from another Company/ Institute or University.

The aspiring eligible companies can send proposals online by March 31, 2017.

BIRAC is a Section 25 ‘Not-for-Profit Company’ of Government of India, registered under Indian Companies Act 1956, set up as Department of Biotechnology’s interface agency, which serves as a single window for the emerging biotech industries.
