BIS to formulate standards for sports goods, toys, fitness equipment

New Delhi, Sept 12 (KNN) Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has initiated the process of formulating new and modifying existing standards for sports goods, toys and gymnasium and physical fitness equipment to bring them at par with international norms.
The technical committee of BIS will frame terminology, methods of sampling, tests and specifications for these products.
However, standards for certain sports goods such as sinew guts for tennis and badminton rackets, frames of these rackets, badminton woollen balls, tube inflated football bladders etc. are being withdrawn.
Products for which standards are being revised include: Shuttlecocks, boxing gloves, footballs, volleyballs, basket balls and tennis balls.
BIS has taken steps to adopt international standards namely ISO, for a number for sports and related goods such as camping tents (ISO 5912:2011), awnings (ISO 8936:2007); stationery training equipment (ISO 20957 -1 to10), parallel bars (ISO 378: 1980); horizontal bar (ISO 379: 1980) among others.
