BIS to hold a workshop on Standardization in the field of Sports Goods

New Delhi, March 26 (KNN) Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is holding a Workshop on “Sports Goods – Present and Future Needs” in Meerut on 30th March 2015.
 
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national standards body of India engaged in the formulation of national standards, operation of Product Certification Scheme (the familiar ISI Mark Scheme), Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and many other activities.
 
The standards formulation activity is carried out through Division Councils and Technical committees comprising of various stakeholders representing different interest.
 
The standards in the field of Sports Goods are formulated through Sports Goods Sectional Committee (PCD 28) under the Chairmanship of Additional Development Commissioner, Ministry of Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises, Govt. of India. The committee has so far formulated over 75 standards.
 
BIS also represents India on the technical committees of the International Standards Organization (ISO) on Sports related standards.
 
PCD 28, in its recent meeting emphasized the need for involving important stakeholders in the standardization process for making realistic standards meeting the present day needs which is possible through technical inputs from the experts in the relevant fields of sporting activity. 
 
An important action towards promoting standards formulation activity on Sports Goods is to hold awareness programme/workshop inviting all stakeholders.  
 
Thus, BIS is holding this workshop inviting the industry to share their views on existing industries norms and the need for improvements and also translating them in the form of realistic Indian Standards.
 
The programme is being organised at Hotel Crystal Palace, Meerut. The nodal officer for the workshop is N K Kansara a Scientist F & Head (PCD) from BIS (KNN Bureau).
