New Delhi, Apr 1 (KNN) The All India Trade Unions have called for an all-India general strike on September 2 to protest against what they term "unilateral amendments" in labour laws and the government's indifference towards their 12-point charter of demands under the joint declaration at the National Convention on Wednesday which was attended by leaders of INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, UTUC and LPF.

However, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) kept itself away from the meeting.

KNN caught up the General Secretary of the BMS, Virjesh Upadhyay to know the reason behind the Sangh not attending the meeting.

He said that it is a political call which has been taken keeping in mind the four assembly elections.

The BMS General Secretary said that it is upto them to decide whether they want to be a part of any strike or not.

“We never ever supported such kind of political strikes,” he said.

The unions have asked their members to organise a day-long mass dharna or Satyagraha in state capitals and industrial centres on August 9 (Quit India Day) ahead of the strike. (KNN Bureau)
